Stage one of Eastern Creek Quarter (ECQ), is a 10,000 sqm GLA super-neighbourhood centre with a range of specialty stores and services, a large children’s play area and other community amenities.
A new full-line 3,800 sqm Woolworths supermarket and BWS liquor store anchor the centre which includes a pharmacy, gym, childcare centre, medical centre with other retaillers. A vibrant and innovative street food precinct, ECQ Social completes the offering.
i2C wanted to create a design that evokes pride for the diverse community of Eastern Creek. The centre needed to be a place the community gather, socialise, exchange ideas and experiences, foster connections and celebrate the area’s cultural diversity.
The hawkers unique pop up dining area was considered during the early stages of master planning and stems from the diverse community. The pop-up tenancies concept is a first for Australia, insuring that ECQ Social remains fresh and exciting, offering different local operators the chance to showcase dishes from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
Frasers Property committed to a 6 Star Green Star rating for ECQ and proposed a design that responds to its location adjacent to the parklands by integrating recreational facilities and amenities that connect people with the natural bushland. Maximising natural light and minimising energy consumption are achieved through strips of skylights along edges of the external covered mall. Cross-ventilation at the entrances and louvres on the raised roof over the external covered walkway helps reduce the heat. The roof features 1 MW of solar panels and a 200 kL onsite rainwater tank proves water for the base building and amenities.
The centre has really been embraced by the community and we were extremely pleased by the outcome. The design responded to the site, demographic and development requirements. The parents’ room is fantastic and a credit to the team for the concept and detailing.
